Drop in Mood & Depression
How can I manage my depression?
Depression can affect up to 1 in 6 of the adult population so it isn’t as unusual or as untoward as you may think.
Symptoms can include:
- lack of motivation
- difficulties in concentration
- irritability
- crying
- sleep disturbances
- suicidal thoughts
- self harm
- pessimism
- lack of enthusiasm / pleasure
- social withdrawal
- changes in appetite
- loss of sex drive
Often it’s not just the impact of depression on you. It will also have knock-on effects on the people around you, both in personal and professional relationships.
With counselling I will help you to explore and understand the root causes of the drop in mood and/or depression. I will help you deal with the underlying issues and to develop strategies to counter such feelings.
The onset of depression can arrive for many different reasons:
- loss
- redundancy
- relationship problems
- mental ill health (OCD, PTSD…)
- low self-esteem
- peri-natal depression / post-natal depression
- and many, many more
Sometimes you cannot even identify the underlying cause of the depression. So I will help you to understand the cause, examine the thoughts, feelings and behaviours that contribute towards your low mood. I will work with you to identify what maintains it, and teach you strategies to overcoming the depression.
I will work with you to learn to become your own therapist, developing personal coping strategies and tools & techniques for you to utilise for the long term.
